Alcad and Saft Nickel Cadmium Batteries
We are a service agent for ALCAD and SAFT and also stockists of their cells and
spares.
Alcad Nickel Cadmium Cells
Low Performance Cells (L - range)
Low performance cells are generally used in applications where the battery is
required to provide a reliable source of energy over a long discharge period.
Normally, the currents are small in comparison to the total stored energy and
the discharges are generally infrequent. Typical uses are power backup and bulk
energy storage. Alcad's L-Range of cells are available in capacities ranging
from 10Ah to 355Ah in the single cells, and from 387Ah to 1540Ah in block
cells. Cell capacities are at the 5 hour rate.
Alcad Low Performance Plastic Cells.
Medium Performance Cells (M - range)
Medium performance cells are generally used in applications where the battery
is required to sustain electrical load for 30 minutes to 3 hours, or for mixed
loads, which require a mixture of high and low discharge rates. The
applications can have frequent or infrequent discharges. These cells are
usually used in backup applications. Alcad's M-Range of cells are available in
capacities ranging from 9Ah to 335Ah in single cells, and from 369Ah to 1390Ah
in block cells. Cell capacities are at the 5 hour rate.

High Performance Cells (H - range)
High performance cells are generally used in applications where there is a
demand for a relatively high current over short periods, usually less than 30
minutes. The applications can have frequent or infrequent discharges. These
cells are typically used in starting and power backup applications. Alcad's
H-Range fo cells are available in capacities ranging from 9Ah to 210Ah in
single cells, and from 230Ah to 920Ah in the block cells. Cell capacities are
at the 5 hour rate.

Ultra-Low Maintenance (VN - range)

here.
Low Maintenance High Performance (XHP - range)
Alcad manufacture a range of low maintenance, very high performance nickel
cadmium cells. These are typically used in UPS systems and engine starting,
where regular maintenance is not possible. They are also very resiliant to both
environmental and electrical abuse. The cells can be installed in temperatures
ranging from -20oC to +60oC.
Due to their construction, they can tolerate high ripple currents, high
overcharge currents and voltage reversal, and remain completely unaffected by
deep or complete discharge.

We can supply a full range of spares and accessories for
the cells listed above. For more information click here.
Saft Nickel Cadmium Cells
Saft, like Alcad, manufacture a broad range of cell types. Therefore, you can
select exactly the right type of cell for your application.
Below is a selection of the cell types that Saft produce, these are suited to
railway applications.
Saft Medium Performance Cells (SRM - range)
The SRM range of cells are used on rail transport systems as a reliable backup
for on-board lighting, air conditioning, computing systems and door control.
They are available in a wide range of containers: -
SRM in steel containers assembled in plywood crates
SRM in plastic containers assembled in steel crates
SRM-P in standard polypropoylene containers
SRM-FR in polyamide flame retardant containers (classified V0 to meet the UL94
standard). The halogen-free plastic offers excellent smoke/fire
characteristics.

Saft High Performance Cells (SRX - Range)
The SRX range of cells are used primarily for engine starting and emergency
braking power in railway applications, although they are also suited to marine
applications of the same nature. The SRX range is also particularly suited to
low temperature applications, with the same reliability in temperatures from
-50oC to +70oC.
In a typical application (Charged at 1.45V/Cell at +20oC)
the only maintenance required is a topping up every two years. As with the SRM
range, the SRX cells are available in various container types.

Battery Stands
We can manufacture wooden stands and we can supply metal stands for banks of
batteries.
The wooden stands are made to customer specifications. The length, height and
depth are determined by the size and amount of cells, although there are
usually several alternatives available. The wood used is 18mm 13 ply Latvian
Birch wood, which is painted with a wood preserver and a special alkaline
resistant paint. If you require a quote for a stand please send an E-Mail to
sales@cecns.demon.co.uk with details of the battery and location (i.e.
restrictions on any dimensions etc.).
